The Sweet Life of Garner and Lindsay

Salve omnes,

This week went by super fast, but there was a lot of interesting stuff that happened along the way, so time this week has been extra weird.

First off, it's still hot, but I think I covered that pretty well last week, so I'll leave it at that. We had a ton go on with our investigator this week. I haven't talked about him in awhile, so I'll give a quick review before the quiz: he's been investigating for awhile and is a teenager. We meet with him pretty regularly and we're working with him to get things moving soon. Anyways, whenever we meet with him we go to a small dock at a pond near his house. On Thursday as we were talking, we saw a kid on his bike going around the pond. We didn't think much of it until he rode down to the dock and just got off the bike and stood next to us. I thought he was just waiting on some friends to meet him there, so we just kind of ignored him at first. Then he just started cutting into our conversation to say things about himself. As of that moment, every time we meet with our investigator, this kid comes out because he sees our bikes. We feel bad because clearly he just wants some friends, so we're nice to him and try to teach both him and Julian, but he has no interest and just continues to talk about himself. So this is a fun situation we're trying to figure out how to handle.

Wow, that paragraph was a lot longer than I expected. Imagine if I could write that much back in school.

One day when we were biking through the nightmare known as Houston weather we saw a guy pass by on a racing bike going the other way. We waved and said hi because we actually see him pretty much everytime we go into that neighborhood, he's just too fast to actually have a conversation with him. Anyways, later when we were starting to head home for the night, we heard a voice behind us say "Come on, guys! I'll be your lead out on the Tour De France!" He raced up in front of us, and we just peddled as hard as we could. We were probably only racing him for maybe a minute, but it felt like a lifetime. We zoomed through the neighborhood and went as fast as we could, but this guy was way too fast for us. In the last few moments of the race before we parted ways, we sped by some members who shouted "Come on, Elders! Step up your game!" After that we were going a separate way and said bye to the pro biker and just went back to the usual routine, except my heart exploded. Anyways, that was a really fun time that just made me appreciate the kindness of some people and their understanding that we're just 20 year olds and you can have fun with us regardless of our beliefs or how we practice them.

Last but certainly not least for this week's email, we had another fun biking adventure. We were about to be done with our Saturday when we got a call that there were some leftover cupcakes from an event that was held at the Church, and they needed us to get rid of them. We gladly accepted and biked over there, and they handed us a plate of cupcakes. It was at that moment we realized we were on bikes... and they gave us a plate of cupcakes. Lucky for me, Elder Lindsay has been biking for 8 months, so he held the plate in one hand and put his other on the handle bars. Long story short, Elder Lindsay is almost definitely the only person to cross Spring Cypress Road with a plate of cupcakes on a bike.

That's about it for this week. There's more that happened, but I'd say that's the most outstanding things of the week.

Te amo omnes,
Elder Garner
